In Search of Healthier Hair?

Happy day light savings people! You know what that means... SPRING is here almost! I can feel it in the weather. Subtle changes with slightly warmer temperatures have me all types of excited and I have been cooking light and taking my vitamins in preparation. Actually I've been taking my vitamins all winter for my hair and I can honestly says that my hair is the healthiest it's ever been. It's shiny with no split ends and it's been behaving well with the harsh winter we've had. I've actually had two separate hair stylist say that I had a nice head of hair, their words not mine (LOL) and I can actually see it. My husband has noticed too. It's growing and healthy despite the color that I have in it and believe me that is a huge accomplishment! I do have a little secret weapon though and I think that it's helped me tremendously with the healthiness. It's a combination of vitamins one is Solgar Skin, Nails and Hair vitamin with advanced MSM formula and a Solgar Biotin vitamin once each day. I even switched the dosage to every two days now.

A little history on my vitamin hunt.. I originally started taking Hairfinity because I've heard wonders about it but they're a bit expensive and if you read the label you'll notice for yourself that the main ingredient is Biotin so I don't need to pay an excessive amount for a multiple vitamin with extreme amounts of Biotin. I can take a multiple vitamin on my own and add Biotin and that's exactly what I did saving myself some money along the way for more shoes!

The reason I choose the Solgar Skin, Hair and Nail vitamin was because of the MSM that it included. I am prone to acne and dandruff so figured that I would try this and so far so good. I can honestly say that it's working... WELL!!!! MSM is helpful in treating a few skin conditions and it's been linked with assisting with PMS, allergies, constipation, muscle cramps, hair thinning, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I also had an issue with thinning hair best described as a broken off patch in the center of my head and I've been to several dermatologist and they all described as a stress patch. Well my stress patch has been completely unnoticeable recently and has rarely itched.  Thanks MSM!
The skin conditions it's been linked to ease are listed below:

  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Rosacea
  • Dermatitis
  • Acne
  • Dandruff

I mentioned earlier that I had been cooking too and I have a recipe that I wanted to share with my online family and it's a concoction I created myself! I'm so proud and it was a hit with my daughter so it has a stamp of approval. I am trying to cut the carbs but I still love flavor so I made a cumin chicken salad with roasted tomato and pineapple. I didn't even need dressing on it because the roasted pineapple provided a sweet marinade that mixed well with the cumin. Side note: cumin has a whole host of health benefits too so can you say winning on the health tip! LOL

So let me list my ingredients in detail and hopefully you'll try it and like it.

Cut thin strips of thin sliced chicken breast.
Season with cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, Adobo with pepper and a tiny sprinkle of fresh lemon juice. (don't skimp on the cumin powder... it really packs a punch).
Saute the chicken for 15 minutes and then add your diced tomato (2 small) and 3 rings of fresh pineapple diced. Cook the tomato and pineapple together with the chicken for another 5 minutes and then you're done.

Cut up some fresh lettuce and add your chicken, tomato and pineapple. Shake it up and eat! Done in 25 minutes with preparation.
